Rhino (Left) Rocks the stage with Spellbinder

Born Oct.4th 1976 and raised in Roosevelt Long Island, {home of Public Enemy} John Caldwell AKA Black Rhino, got his start Djing for proms at various Long Island High Schools. His first big break was at a Hempstead Long Island Niteclub called Jamrock and has not looked back since.

The oldest son to Bonnie F Caldwell, she knew he was destined to be in music. In his mothers words, "When he was 6 months old I sat him by the radio to calm him from crying. He listened for so long that I forgot where I had put him. I panicked, but not to fear. He was absorbed in the music; that's how I knew".

Rhino's influences include Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Bob Marley, especially Marley. Being that Black Rhino is an American Artist incorporating Jamaican roots he stands in the forefront of today's American Dancehall.

In the words of Black Rhino "it's clear to see why both Stevie and Ray could influence anyone, they are blind, but to have a God-given talent, simple problems and insecurities should not hinder you. If you have a God-given talent than it is your duty to do his will."

Black Rhino came to Denver in January 2004 and in this short time has opened for many notable Reggae artists including Culture, Sister Carol, Luciano, Yami Bolo, Rocker T, Jus Goodie, King Benj-I, Ricky Starr, Lion SoulJahs, Spellbinder, Dj Uplifter, Bengi-Nati, Dj Prophecy, Cush Culture, Las Hermanos Mariposa and MCAD from Freedom Movement, just to name a few.

With a Booming voice and big stage presence it's easy to see why he is referred to as Black Rhino.  Incorporated from the Chinese calendar, his 1st 12-song album The Year Of The Rhino is made for the dance floor. Full of heavy beats, captivating lyrics and hard-hitting vocal style, with one listen it will be easy to see why 2006 will be the year of the Black Rhino.

Produced by Zionway's DJ Prophecy and Wayne Jakahma Rhymer of Lion SoulJahs, with guest vocalists Jus Goodie, MCAD, Spellbinder, Lady Kate and Sandra D. Anticipated release date late spring 2006 on the Zionway Recordings label.

Gravitate if you like Beanie Man, Shabba Ranks, or Black Rhino's personal favorite, Bounty Killer.
