Perhaps
the reason for such success, is Jah Family Band's devotion to authentic
Jamaican roots and dancehall. Utilizing classic standard rhythms blended
with lead singer Jus Goodie's original, conscious lyrics, the band turns
a dim nightclub into a temple of celebration and worship in the name of
Rastafari. The core of the Jah Family Band is a four piece ensemble
consisting of three part vocal harmonies in the standard drums, bass,
guitar, and keys format. Lead vocalist and guitar player Jus Goodie's
musical roots stem from birth. Born into a musical family, singing and
playing musical instruments have always been a part of Goodie's life.
His path as a reggae musician became solidified after an inspirational
trip to the island of Jamaica, and he's been a dedicated soldier in Jah
army ever since.
Holden down the bass lines tough and
unbending is Leon Aruello. Leon has studied the music and the rhythms of
reggae, ska, calypso, classical, jazz and many others since childhood.
He is unyielding in his time and commitment to the music. Living out of
the studio for which Jah Family Band practices in; Leon spends countless
hours recording and cataloguing new riddims and ideas in collaboration
with Justin, Ryan and Eddie as well as other members of the reggae
community. He has played
with many local reggae singers and has
opened up for some of the bigger Jamaican groups that tour in the US.
Controlling the riddim, the bubble, the
horns and backround vocals is Ryan Spinharney. Playing three keyboards
and occasionally four (with a fender Rhodes); Ryan colors the room with
sweet melodic phrasing and locks the riddim with a solid heavy skank. He
is another child of a musical family who's passion led him through world
music to roots reggae and dancehall . Before joining the Jah Family
Band, he backed Colorado vocalist Wailer B, and other local reggae
singers. He has had the privilege of opening up for Israel Vibration and
Roots Radics, John Brown’s Body, Eek a Mouse and other reggae greats.
Keeping the heartbeat tight on the drums
is Eddie (I) Delissio. Eddie first began playing drums when he was a
little youth. His travels in music quickly led him to reggae. He played
a ska and reggae blend with the Heptals. This eventually evolved into a
backing band for an international reggae singer from the Ivory Coast
named Ramses de Kimon. Eddie has played drums for virtually every local
singer in Colorado including; Wailer B, Canon, Preacherman, Ras Gabriel,
Bongo and Boubacar Diebate. He has also had the privilage of opening up
for Israel Vibration and Roots Radics, John Brown’s Body, Gregory
Isaacs and Eek a Mouse.
Rasta elder of the band, Ras Marcus
Benjamin, has been a crucial part of the reggae music scene in Colorado
as well as New York for over two decades. He is equally important to the
community as an MC, nyahbingi drummer, and music promoter. Benji is the
rootsman of Jah Family Band, holding it all together with the heart beat
of the nyahbingi drum.
Jah Family Band is truly a family bigger
than the band itself, bonding together all lovers of reggae music, roots
culture, and spirituality. In these troubled times, there's nothing that
the world needs more than the healing word, sound, and power of Jah
music. Jah Jah calls forth all singers and players of instruments to the
spiritual battle line. Jah Family Band answers this call, and bravely
steps forth to fight this musical revolution. Jah live!
