Wailer B was born and raised
in the US Virgin Islands. He grew up singing and early on
dedicated himself to reggae music. Wailer B came to came to
Colorado in 1993 and began playing reggae with local
musicians. By 1995 Wailer B was lead singer of the
reggae/hip-hop band Roots Revolt. In 1998 he formed Wailer B and
Axiom. They went on to be named Best Reggae Band in Westword
newspaper's Best of Denver 1999 edition.
"Wailer B blends authenticity and
passion...has the all too rare ability to make music that's individual
yet true to it's origins," writes Michael Roberts, music editor for
Westword.
Bringing his cultural bives to the people
of America through conscious music is a labor of love. Wailer B's
music reflects his experiences of country and ghetto life in the islands
and his spiritual outlook of Rastafari.
Wailer B keeps playing reggae music,
creating original songs and re-inventing old favorites. He
continues a family tradition of rich musical talent of expression.
Wailer B has just produced his first
album, titled Abbajoni. This CD is twelve tracks of original and
upbeat reggae music, including some souka rhythms and calypso
tracks. Songs such as "hold On" reflect the traditional
calypso of places like Dominica, Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago,
and Africa in an original and conscious style. The track "Cumpayo"
(a Caribbean endearment for grandfather) is a loving tribute to
grandfather's everywhere, and a reminder to value the hard labor of
others for us. "Youths" is a message and an anthem --
"Youths of today have to know the truth...."
Currently Wailer B is touring and supporting the Abbajoni CD, and also
appears on Heavyweight Dub Champion's upcoming release. He
continues to make a name for himself appearing on bills with such
international artists as Damian and Julian Marley, Israel Vibration,
Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear and Lee Scratch Perry.
