ROOTS REGGAE LEGEND, CULTURE

MARKS CAREER MILESTONE

releases 30th album June 17 On Heartbeat

May 7, 2003 - Kingston, Jamaica - Best known for weaving a rich tapestry of conscious roots Reggae, Culture, featuring the esteemed Rastaman Joseph Hill, is set to deliver"World Peace," June 17 (Heartbeat). Marking their 30th release in a career that spans the globe, the album offers an engaging and spirited collection of tracks, current yet classic, which balance the catchy, seductive rhythms with the profound spiritual message that has made Culture legendary. The band, named "one of the most influential roots artists since

the 1970's" by the Washington Post, is comprised of impassioned frontman and chief lyricist, Hill, with backing vocalists Albert Walker and Telford Nelson.

"World Peace," is a vigorous and organic, all-new studio album featuring live band arrangements and recorded with some of Jamaica's most acclaimed musicians including The Firehouse Crew and members of Shaggy's band. Sure to

be new classics like the melodic "Sweet Freedom" and the powerful and timely title track "World Peace," ring with a dauntless feeling of power, vision and joyous abandon. Recorded at the famed Mixing Lab in Kingston, Jamaica, the

album was produced by Joseph "Culture" Hill and mixed by Lynford "Fatta"

Marshal, no stranger to the Jamaican hit machine. Founded in the rich tradition of harmony trios in 1976, Culture burst onto the scene with "Two Sevens Clash," a record that went on to define the times and make the band an integral part of the vibrant, politically charged

Jamaican reggae scene of the day. Formerly known as the "African Disciples," Hill and his original band members, cousins Albert Walker and Kenneth Paley Dayes have always been "African Disciples" in their mission though they changed the band's name to Culture. Focused on peace, unity and fairness for all living beings, they have continued to maintain their position as keepers of the conscious vibe.

From studio to stage, making and spreading powerful positive music has been Culture's strong suit. Delivering fervent and memorable performances worldwide, the fiery Hill and his band have earned the admiration of both rastafarians and punks alike by staying true to their roots and their message. On the road this year and every year, recent highlight shows include the recent Bob Marley festivals and the critically acclaimed Rebel Salute, the most successful Jamaican stage show of 2003 featuring such contemporary artists as Sean Paul and Shaggy. The band is expected to tour into 2004 in support of the new release.

4/10/03  ZIGGY MARLEY HITS THE ROAD WITH FIRST-EVER SOLO TOUR
IN WAKE OF DEBUT SOLO ALBUM,
DRAGONFLY

CD IN STORES APRIL 15

27-CITY TOUR KICKS OFF MAY 17

After two decades as the driving creative force behind the Jamaica-based sibling group The Melody Makers, Grammy Award-winning vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Ziggy Marley will launch his first-ever solo tour in tandem with the release of his maiden solo album, DRAGONFLY.  The 27-city club tour will kick off at Belly Up in San Diego on Saturday, May 17th and finish at House of Blues in Los Angeles on Friday and Saturday, June 21-22nd. DRAGONFLY will be released on Private Music on April 15th.  A complete tour itinerary is attached.

“Bringing music directly to the fans has always been an exciting experience for me, perhaps second only to creating new songs in the first place,” said Ziggy.  “While I will continue to record and perform with my brother Stephen and my sisters Cedella and Sharon, this first solo tour gives me the chance to try something new, to spread my wings a little.  DRAGONFLY took a full year to create, and I look forward to the energy of delivering it on the road.”

The first single on DRAGONFLY, “True to Myself,” was the #1 most added track to Triple A radio during its debut week March 19-26, and continues to gain momentum. The second week it achieved the #1 most increased song on the R&R Triple A charts. A work of musical diversity and startling originality, DRAGONFLY weaves a tapestry of songs that resonates such themes as personal growth, world peace and environmental responsibility.

Ziggy Marley’s early immersion in music came at age ten when he sat in on recording sessions with his father’s group The Wailers.  He would later join with his siblings to found and front The Melody Makers, whose eight best-selling albums encompassed a broad spectrum of musical styles ranging from blues and R&B to rock and hip-hop, while consistently remaining true to its reggae lineage.  Standout albums such as the Grammy-winning Conscious Party (1988), One Bright Day (1989) and Fallen Is Babylon (1997) helped establish Marley’s credentials as a world-class songwriter and performer.  The band’s chart-topping hits include “Tomorrow People” and Tumbling Down.”

03/13/03  Reggae at The Door Cancelled

The Reggae at the Door series which had shown so much progress and potential, was abruptly cancelled amidst an amazing display of unprofessional behavior from The Famous Door ownership.  For the full story, click here.   The Reggae Movement Fan Package will be given out at Dubwise Chillout at Dulcinea's 100th Monkey on next Sunday instead of at The Famous Door.  People have often wondered as to why reggae music is so inconsistent throughout the Denver area, and this situation is a clear example of the challenges which face attempts at building something.  On the one hand, someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about building a night is needed to help provide a quality product, yet on the other hand,  you have greedy bar owners such as the Famous Door who do not want to give the time to allow it to fester and grow.

3/04/03 Reggae Movement to give away Third World Fan Package

In order to thank fans for their loyalty and to show that The Reggae Movement is committed to bringing Denver more reggae music, it has been announced that there will be a fan package given out to one lucky person for the Third World show at the Bluebird Theater Wednesday, March 26. This fan package will include 2 tickets, 2 backstage passes, t-shirts and CD's. The Drawing will take place at The Famous Door on Thursday, March 20th's Reggae at The Door featuring Preacherman.

Starting Thursday, March 6th, you can enter your name for the drawing at, Lance's Caribbean Bakery or Sunday Nights at Dulicnea's 100th Monkey. You can also enter your name on the website at the contests page.

2/28/03  Third World Tour Finalized

One of reggae's true legends, Third World, finalized a tour which will bring them through the Colorado area.  Kicking off the Colorado tour at the Bluebird Theater on Wednesday, March 26th, Third World will play in Vail on the 27th, Nederland on the 28th, and in Steamboat on the 29th.  There is a tentative date on the 31st for Albuquerque, but nothing is confirmed.  For more information, please visit the upcoming shows link.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE FOX THEATRE

2/24/03 To All Fox Theatre Patrons, Friends, and Family…

It comes with great sadness to have to write this to you all, but it helps us realize how serious we take our jobs to provide you with a safe place to see live music.  The recent events in both Chicago, IL and Warwick, RI have us on the brink of tears, and visions of our own beloved Fox Theatre being under such a panic have been inevitable.  But right HERE, right NOW, we want to let everyone know that we personally, with every bit of assurance in our souls, feel that you are in the safest venue in America when you visit us at the Fox Theatre.  We have precautions beyond need, it seems at times, but right now it feels nothing could ever really be enough.  First and foremost, The Fox Theatre is a stone structure, not wood, which may indeed be our greatest benefit.  The Fox is also equipped with a fully working and maintained Exit Lights, Stair Lighting & Sprinkler System in case of fire.  We have fire extinguishers located throughout the Fox Theatre, on stage, in the lobby, behind each bar, upstairs in our offices, as well as special electrical fire prevention units at both soundboards (HOUSE and STAGE).  For your knowledge we also have two fire escapes on either side of the stage that exit into the back alley, and our lobby is "one big door" should anything go wrong.  Also, in the case of an extreme emergency, double doors behind the fire retardant stage curtain would also be used to usher people out of the building.  Finally, on a bi-monthly basis, we have All Staff Safety Meetings in which everyone, regardless of how long they have worked here at The Fox, sits down and reviews safety procedures, as well as group discussions of different scenarios in which a panicking crowd could cause the problems we have seen recently in clubs across the country.  We urge anyone of you to talk with our security or house manager any time you have a question or concern, and in the event of an emergency, you remain calm and follow the orders of these people that are here to protect you.

I don’t know if this is our way of getting these thoughts off our chest, a way to release some pent up negative energy, or an attempt to send out a prayer or assurance from the management at one of America’s busiest venues.  It is however the only way we feel we can let you know that the Fox Theatre takes its responsibilities to its employees, friends and family more serious than many know.  WE all feed off of each other.  If it wasn’t for each other, WE do not exist, WE do not enjoy this great place WE have created, WE are not who we are.  We do not for a second take anyone or anything in regards to the Fox Theatre for granted.  You are all loved and we need to see you back here again. Whether it’s tomorrow, or 5 years from now, our reason for existing is to see you all again and again, smiling, dancing and enjoying everything we work so hard, day in and day out, to accomplish.

With Love And Deepest Sympathies for Everyone affected by these recent tragedies,

Eric Pirritt

2/23/03 2002 Grammy Award Awarded to Lee Scratch Perry

The 2002 Grammy Award for Reggae Album of the Year was awarded to Lee Scratch Perry for his album Jamaican E.T.   A well deserved honor for the reggae pioneer, as his latest album offers instant classics, such as 10 Commandments, as well as nice rhythms and rhymes.  The world of reggae would truly be a much duller place without Lee Scratch Perry, and The Reggae Movement would like to give congratulations to Lee Scratch for the Grammy Award Honor.

This is Lee Scratch Perry's First Grammy Award.
