The
Reggae Movement Ever Forward Awards
Based upon fan voting, we set forth to reward
those who excelled in their respective fields. The responses to our
first year were outstanding, and we'd like to thank everyone who participated in
our online voting. Our plans are already in action for next year, as we
seek to expand our award offerings, as well as diversify the availability of
polling devices beyond just the web site submission.
We regret
that this year we could not find a venue willing to hold the First Annual Reggae
Movement Awards, but rest assured 2003 will have a huge celebration of Colorado
Reggae Music, as we are dedicated to the scene and shall move ever forward in
helping everyone who loves, plays or listens to reggae music.
So, without Further Adieu, the winners of the
2002 Reggae Movement Ever Forward Awards are :
|
Favorite
Local Reggae Act :
Jah
Family Band
Jah
Family emerged upon the scene and provided fans from Ft. Collins to Denver
to Mountains with a talented show each and every night they
played. A fan favorite, the fans voting them as the Favorite
Local Act reflects their hard work and dedication to the music that is
apparent in their talented shows. Other notables in the voting were
Zionway Soundsystem, Preacherman, and Canon and the Lion of Judah Band

Best
Live Performance :
Burning
Spear, Reggae on the Rocks XV
The
voting was based from August 2001 to July 2002, and Burning Spear gave an
exemplary performance that was a resounding victory in this
category. Everything came together that evening at Red Rocks as he
lifted everyone's spirits in the place. Other notables in the voting
were Buju Banton, Damian Marley and Toots and the Maytals, all at the Fox
Theater in Boulder.

Favorite
DJ Show :
Muzik
Maker
Beginning
with the Cosmos Night Club and creating a great scene at the Supreme Court,
Muzik Maker provided crowds with everything they needed to enjoy
themselves. As DJ Hovey D, from New Mexico said, "I've never seen
anyone get people to dance so quickly." Another notable on this
award are the 3 DJ's down at the Snake Pit who put on the Happy Hour show
every Friday.

Favorite
Venue for a Reggae Show :
Fox
Theatre, Boulder
If
you've ever seen a show at The Fox, then you shouldn't have many questions
as to why this venue was the overwhelmingly fan favorite for the Best
Venue for a Reggae Show. From the scene outside to the sound
and lighting, this is hands down the best venue one can ask for in a live
music performance. Many thanks from all the fans should go to the
Fox for putting together such a top notch performance each and every
time. From Buju to Damian to Burning Spear, Culture and Black Uhuru,
it's been another great year for Reggae.

Favorite
Radio Show :
Heartbeat
of Zion, Durango, Rasta Stevie
Not
being from Durango, It's hard for me to say much about Rasta Stevie's
Heartbeat of Zion Show. However, I can attest to the fact that his
fans really came out in force in recognition of his talent, dedication and
hard work. Other very close notables were the Reggae Bloodlines show
in Boulder and Radio 1190's Rasta Experience.

Fan
of the Year :
Peter
Karuru
This
was a subjective award, but there was no fan more passionate for reggae
music than Peter Karuru, who was at every show, from DJ shows to Live Shows,
involved front and center with the crowd, animated, excited, jubilant, and
everything else that goes with the word "fantatic". Truly,
there are many who are deserved of this award, but since only one is chosen,
it must be him this past year.
