----One good thing about music;
when it hits, you feel no pain ---
Ah,
the perpetual question. If
you were on a deserted island and could only have one CD, which album
would you choose?
Inevitably, I am certain that my choice would come down to one of the
few live albums Burning Spear has produced over the course of his
illustrious and productive career.
Irrelevant the depth of your enjoyment of music, Burning Spear’s live
performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in France will leave an
impression of the power and beauty reggae music can bring.
A full compliment of the Burning Band backs Winston Rodney, aka Burning
Spear, throughout the current incarnations of his legendary musical
work. The titles of the
songs are irrelevant as the beauty of the music is what shines the test
of time.
Known throughout the genre of reggae as one of the, if not
the, top reggae band in
existence, the Burning Band continues to provide a level of consistency
to be marveled and admired.
Even throughout the course of song to song, the Burning Band’s talent
and drive to perfection shines thorugh, leaving smile of simplistic joy,
grateful for the ability to revel in the pleasure provided through the
art of music.
Written from a personal perspective, from one who has had the privelidge
of experiencing Mr. Rodney live on many occassions, Live at Montreux
gives an idea of what deep penetration a tightly wound band can
inflict upon the musical psyche.
Live at Montreux can be a great tromp down memory lane for those
who have also shared this pleasure with me, or can provide great
motivation and inspiration for those who have yet to have this pleasure
to seek it out live. In
either case, Burning Spear live is a treat for all.
