In promotion of their 30th
album “World Peace,” Joseph Hill, Telford Nelson, and Albert Walker also
known as, “Culture” made their way to Boulder’s Fox Theater on
Thursday, July
10.
A staple in roots reggae since their 1977
release “2 sevens Clash,” Culture came to the Fox chanting words of
empowerment to the meek and world peace in a time of serious mass
destruction.
Lead by Joseph Hill and a powerful eight
person stage set up including two keyboardists, this legendary group
dipped deep into their thirty year repertoire and gave the almost full Fox
Theater yet another fine performance of ballads that sing praise to His
Majesty and promote true consciousness.
Songs such as “Legalization” and “Chant
Down Babylon” brought fire against the wicked while “Jah Guide” and
Marley’s “Mellow Mood,” delivered a message of devotion and love.
The personal favorite “Addis Ababa” Told
the
story
of His Majesty’s coronation when he took his baptismal name Haile Selassie
I “The Power Of The Holy Trinity.” Other songs like “Take it easy” and
“Trust Me” showed the crowd a bit of the bands’ diversity.
Culture still proves to be a prominent
force in modern roots headlining many major festivals this summer and
releasing the monumental 30th album, which above all else
promotes “World Peace,” our globe’s greatest obstacle. The band even made
a stop on Friday at the infamous Mishawaka Theater up in The Poudre Canyon
near Fort Collins.
This new album, the first in a long while
to be produced on the Heartbeat label, features some of the best reggae
musicians in JA with Dean Fraser and the infamous Firehouse crew backing
Joseph on every track. Culture also recently released a video of their
travels to Africa where they brought the words of His Majesty to the
birthplace of creation
This energy was brought right to us from
Kingston as these three legendary singers showcased their vocal ability
while educating the boulder crowd on their most important reasoning’s.
Seeing Culture is always a roots experience and this current set of music
that Hill, Walker, and Nelson have put together is no exception.
Ending the show with a four-song encore
including some new material Culture showed once again that they keep Jah
torch burning wherever they bring their devotional music.
