Thursday,
October 16th marked the day that Lucky Dube made his triumphant return
to the Fox Theatre from far away South Africa. Bringing his unique
style of melodies and playful rhythms,
Lucky made his intentions very clear; entertainment and fun.
Starting off his 2 hour plus set with Guns and Roses,
smiling and dancing in unison with his backup singers, he jumped from
place to place on stage, kicking, rolling his dreads, smiling and
laughing. Bringing his message of one people and one love, it was
clear that it was going to be a night of joy.
Showing
his fun side with stylish and fun call and response, the crowd was
involved and into the performance early into the show, ready to respond
any way Lucky asked of them.
Lucky's powerful stage presence and strong voice
bellowed through the Fox during his performance of his classic "The Way
It Is". Crying out the beautiful message throughout, the tight
band played perfectly behind him, with his trio of talented backup
singers continuing to play with the crowd through their dancing.
It's remarkable how such a positive and happy stage
can so easily resonate throughout the crowd. As each and every
band member smiled, laughed, and danced throughout the show, as did the
crowd follow in line with them. Such a playful display by not only
Lucky, but his band along with him. When a group is having as much
fun as they are on stage, how could one not admire and appreciate their
performance?
As
Lucky sang a couple of tunes of his new album, "The Other Side" and
"Cool Down", the crowd took the opportunity to take a break from the
euphoria and listen to what his new CD had to offer.
Finishing out with more of his hits, Lucky
Dube continued to keep the crowd in an elevated sense of euphoria.
His music is a natural lift in spirit, as his definitive style of using
keyboards to keep the melody, as the bass groove reverbs through your
body, keeps one even.
Such a great show it was. The band was tight, the
crowd was dancing, and everyone was happy.
Bongo
Love offered a great warmup to Lucky, performing his local hits with a
Rhumba feel to them. The crowd was entertained and ready for Lucky
Dube after a great set by Colorado's own african roots reggae star.
