This past Saturday night the Denver
Massive were treated to an evening with the UK's own Steele Pulse.
The crowd was mixed and the vibes were right. The stage of
Cervantes Masterpiece Theater experience an energy it never has
before. This show brings hope that
Cervantes will become a
haven for live reggae in Denver.
These roots reggae icons have been
spreading their message since the 70's and proved on Saturday they
have no plans of slowing down. The band blazed through their arsenal
of crowd favorites such as Rally Round and Roller Skates. For me it
was a special treat to hear the band play tracks from the long awaited
new album, African Holocaust. The track No More Weapons was
especially fantastic because of the crowd involvement it provoked.
They demonstrated that they have not lost the ability to write solid
tunes after all these years.
When
you see Steel Pulse, you
must attend the show with a mindframe beyond smiling and dancing. The
message is political and they strive to educate, fight injustice, and
pose thought provoking questions such as "Who Shall Save the Human
Race."
I hold a special place in my heart for
this band because they were the first reggae band I ever saw live
about 10 years ago. I guess I thank Steele Pulse for putting me on
the path of submerging myself in this fascnating music and culture
called Reggae. Thank you Cervantes for bringing the reggae and please
keep it coming back as Denver needs you.
