A sit down with Bongo Love
Reggae Movement : First off, Bongo, where you from and how did you end up in Boulder? Bongo Love : I'm from Zimbabwe, in Southern Africa, and it's kind of a long story on how I got to Boulder. Reggae Movement : Zimbabwe? What do you think of the policies Mugabe has implemented and the apparent widespread devastation of the people due to those policies. Bongo Love : See man, I don't deal with politics, seen, because it's politricks, seen. It's just a game to some and it's hard to see people motivation for things. Reggae Movement : What is the message you are trying to express in your music? Bongo Love : well my music is just happiness, cause people need to be together, and come together, for when the people come together, they can overcome whatever might be before them in the world? Reggae Movement : As a local act, one of the benefits is to get to open up for some of the major national acts. What do you like best out of a band when you're opening up, and who have you most liked opening up for? Bongo Love : See, it's kind of hard to say precisely, but when I was in Zimbabwe, i opened up for Buju Banton. And then for him to come to boulder, and to see him play again, and to open for him again! That's the most memorable experience in my life. Reggae Movement : How do you get motivated to do your best every night? Bongo Love : We make it sound the best way you can, we pump it up. see, we play african music, and most people who see us don't ever hear african music before, so we have to show them something. And people are dancing, and when people dance that means they like it. So we just keep on working towards the sound. Reggae Movement : What would one statement be that would personify Bongo Man? Bongo Love : See me i'm from africa, in Zimbabwe there is big big drought. In Zimbabwe, there's 7 million people who are under starvation, so i think it would be good for people to remember that there are people in the world that need food and need more than you might feel you need.
